Hello Everyone,

I intended to do this about 11 months ago, but better late than never… Just
finished translating the core messages of the user interface to Spanish.
Followed all the indications pointed at the wiki
<http://wiki.collectionspace.org/display/UNRELEASED/Translating+the+Collecti
onSpace+User+Interface>  and previous emails on talk list.

Posted the result on github
<https://github.com/javiero/ui/blob/master/src/main/webapp/defaults/bundle/c
ore-messages.properties>  and the translation repository
http://wiki.collectionspace.org/display/UNRELEASED/Translation+Repository
.

I did a basic spell-check via Word, and tried to be consistent with the
terms used, but if there’s any error, sorry in advance and please correct
them.

If there’s any Spanish user now or in the future, please contact me to
collaborate on further translations.

Next steps on my behalf:

  • Translate the TermLists file

  • Implement this change on test server (any help in this matter

will be appreciated), first trying with recent virtual machine posted of
version 4.1.1

Lingering doubt:

  • How do I keep up the translation if there are any changes on the

main branch? My initial assumption would be checking changes on the English
file, and manually update the Spanish one? Is there an easier/more efficient
way?

Best regards,

Javier Ormeño

Thanks, Javier!  This is a really nice contribution!  I can't answer your questions ("lingering doubt"), but hopefully someone else can address that issue.

Congratulations and thanks, Javier! This is great news!

How do I keep up the translation if there are any changes on the main

branch? My initial assumption would be checking changes on the English
file, and manually update the Spanish one? Is there an easier/more
efficient way?

That sounds reasonable on its face. One way to look for changes in the
relevant files might b to do a 'diff' at each release, between old and new
versions: targeted just at the files relevant to your language translation.

While you can do this with a utility application in your own filesystem (I
typically use bbdiff on the Mac, a utility bundled with a commercial text
editor; e.g.
http://briandigital.tumblr.com/post/19233631926/how-to-use-bbedit-to-look-at-differences-between),
you might also be able to use GitHub's "compare" tools for this purpose -
worth experimenting with:

https://help.github.com/articles/comparing-commits-across-time/

As well, GitHub offers some notification features that you can set up both
via its website and via its API, that might help you receive ongoing
notifications of commits, etc. I haven't yet explored these, and thus don't
know whether there's a way, with scripting, that you can set up a filter to
be notified only of the changes to your files of interest.

Wow, didn't expect so much positive feedback. From my perspective,
CollectionSpace is a bigger gift for museums around the world.
So I'm taking this opportunity to thank all the persons involved one way or
another.

Best regards
Javier
