Our South Pacific Trips (I don't count Hawaii as S. Pacific) have been on friend's boats--some of them have had cats--but even cats create a huge problem.
One of the deciding factors in our going to Europe, vs circumnavigating or going to the S. Pacific, was pets. Even in Europe there are places where pets are not welcome, but there are usually accomidations. The South Pacific is not a pet friendly place. I would not personally take either a dog or pet to the S. Pacific. There is a significant chance that the pet will have to be destroyed, or at the very least you will be severely inconvienced--not allowed to land, be inspected regularly, post large bonds etc. Do not do it.
Sorry to be so abrupt--but this is the experience of both friends and we we saw in our travels.
