To All –

What a wild night to race. Rather nasty and not for the frail or
faint-hearted! Sailflow graphic below –

In short, it was blowing stink. What the graphic doesn’t tell you is about
the 45° wind shifts around mark A up under the Hook, nor the viciousness of
going from 5 to 25 mph in a heartbeat during that shift. Is there anybody
who raced tonight who didn’t get knocked on their rear end at least three
times? Try as we might, we put the winches under water more than once and
back-winded the jib in a particularly vicious wind shift.

I guess we owe thanks to Howie and Diane for a memorable evening on the

river. Big congratulations to John Sheehan in Imagine, winning on corrected
time by over 10 minutes. Awesome. And Charlie Brieant walked away in Zoom
from the non-spinnaker fleet by more than 6 minutes. Wow. Way to go,
Charlie.

A personal note. Mike Gunn showed up tonight with a group of six

non-sailors and they all got onto boats. What a night to be a newbie! From
the chatter on the patio at the end of the racing, everyone had a great time
despite the cold and tough racing conditions. We gained a crew, and I can’t
wait until he comes back next week. Thanks, Mike!

As usual, please let me know of any changes or corrections to the

results.
