I too lived on Lake Champlain for 39 years, at that time the lake bordered New York and Vermont states in the US not Canada. As for lake regulations, I most certainly agree with Dennis Bruckel's remarks.

Now as I live in the Thousand Islands adjacent to Lake Ontario, I would be more concerned about having a 'Pleasure Craft Operators Permit' I've never been stopped and asked to check the MSD.
