There is a hull design which has not really been exploited too its fullest:

(Note, this is not meant as an ad for this boat, and I wrote the web sites and
took the photos I post this as a unique hull form).
In this concept there is a very long run box keel, which is itself a NACCA
foil. This gives great effeciency under power (as well under sail)--with a
taller rig when lighter; in racing configuration--she maintaned 16 knots over
prolonged intervals and hit over 22 knots in bursts down wind . The first
engine was 50 hp--it and a 60 hp engine were worn out--the 100 HP is a
relitatively new engine and will give an easy 8 to 9 knots. With 150 hp, you
would easily see 12 knots sustained cruising speeds. (This box keel, is
unique in that it starts laminar flow, and lift which works very effeciently
in semi displacement speeds--a concept hinted at in the Camano--but not
developed to this extent.
It would be very easy to put a deck house where the dodger is currently--and
actually drop the walkway to the cabin entrance just above cockpit level for
standing head room (this area is over a double bunk in the aft port
stateroom).
An example of a very easily driven, but powerful hull.
