It would seem to me that if you are comfortable doing ocean crossings with
only 2 crew you can't be to concerned about a question like insurance.

Being insured for an action, does  not mean I want to do it.  Teri
and I have not been more then 50 miles offshore without additional
crew.  I believe to do is less safe then I want.  One person sick,
another becomes a care giver, something  breaks etc.  However
that said, many power boats do ocean crossings with only two
crew without issues.

I want to be insured if for some reason we decide we have to
cruise offshore with only two, we are insured.  For example
we are on a island, and our third crew member needs medical
care and the fastest way to get help for them is to get them to
the mainland.

What is it that you are insuring against ? A collision at sea with anything
of size is likely to be fatal. A major storm is probably less likely than a
major illness if you are careful with weather.

I do not know... fire, damage from a boarding, water damage from a leak,
side swipe with a vessel, impact with a small boat, dinghy washed over,
hitting something floating in the sea, me running into someone...
but if I ever need it (I hope to never make an insurance claim) it will
probably be from something I did not list.

The real reason I wanted the coverage everywhere is to limit the number
of reasons a insurance company could decline coverage.

Aren't you already committed (with two crew) to facing the major risks of
the trip by your own selection already ?  What is the value of insurance in
this environment?
