Seen this happened with our post office here. I think there were some reports of this a few years ago where they report delivery to meet “contractual goals” but in actuality the package gets delivered a day or two later.

For what it's worth, I got my package. It seems that it was reported to
have been delivered 2 days before a key showed up in our mailbox. I
don't know whether the key was somehow misplaced by the postal person or
the package just wasn't delivered when it said it was but I got the
package finally.

According to Amazon and the USPS tracking, an item I ordered was
delivered and "left in a parcel locker" on 25 October. Unfortunately,
there was no key left in our mailbox, so I am assuming that the key
was put in someone else's box. The package should have been addressed
to Ralph Wilson at 9038 Woodland Trace, so if you got a mysterious
package when you opened one of the parcel lockers, please check it for
my address.
