Dear Colleagues,

You are warmly invited to join us for a Let’s Talk session on Wednesday, July 9, at 10:00 a.m. to learn more about the Student Protest Archives: Oral History Data Collection Project. This initiative, funded by a $1,000,000 grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation,https://hbculibraries.org/old-site/docs/HBCUPress-Release-25.pdf is part of the HBCU Library Alliance's broader effort to empower HBCU libraries through civil rights preservation, digital innovation, and transformative professional development.

The project aims to document, preserve, and digitize the significant legacy of student-led protests that have influenced HBCUs and their communities. The project emphasizes thoughtful curation and usability, ensuring that these important narratives remain accessible and meaningful for future generations.

Funding Opportunity:
HBCU Library Alliance members in good standing are eligible to apply for subgrant funding of up to $11,250. This funding can support enhancements to metadata, updates to transcription, digitization, and community outreach related to existing collections.

Next Steps:
A project survey has already been shared to assess the scope, condition, and accessibility of current oral histories related to student activism at your institutions (complete survey herehttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScDK5d8fYIcJ_9Y6Lj6XbY2HhfLWHzzTDwY8wZDlEjZGES64Q/viewform?usp=dialog). The session will be recorded for those unable to join live.
