It's that time again ... it's the* 2nd annual Tacoma Community Garden Tour*!
This little escapade into some of Tacoma's hidden treasures includes four
gardens and an opportunity to get some nice discounts on local food specials
at The Hub, 203 Tacoma Ave. S.
The format for the tour will be similar to last year, but for those who
didn't go ...
When is it? 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23
*What is it? *A chance to discover some of Tacoma's hidden treasures: Our
community gardens. Come check out the fabulous produce, meet the gardeners,
find out more about the offerings. There will also be a select number of
community booths -- including Tacoma's EnviroChallenger and the Green Tacoma
Partnership folks (among others).
*How do I know where to go? *Bring your map (e-mail
growingconversation@gmail.com for a printable map or pick up a hard copy on
Saturday at the Proctor Farmers Market at North 27th & Proctor -- there
should be a table at the Proctor Street side of the market.)
Do I really need a map? You bet! Plus, if you get your map stamped at all
four community gardens participating in this tour, you can get a FREE PLANT
when you get to Neighbors Park at 8th & I. Also, bring your map (even if
it's not fully stamped) to The Hub, 203 Tacoma Ave. S., when you're done a
50% DISCOUNT on Saturday's local food specials AND Happy Hour drink
discounts.
*Is there a tour bus? *Nope. This tour is self-guided. You can drive or walk
or bike or bus, but you're on your own -- we encourage you to bring friends.
But what if I want to be part of a group? Well, now that you mention it,
there is a GUIDED bike tour*. The Tacoma Wheelmen have volunteered to help
lead the tour again this year. The tour leaves at 11 a.m. from the Proctor &
N. 27th Street side of the Proctor Farmers Market. Come 15 minutes early to
fill out a release. Helmets are required, and make sure to bring any snacks
and water you need.*
*And who's in charge? *A group of folks. This tour is a collaboration from
an array of people representing the Pierce Conservation District, the City
of Tacoma's TAGRO program, the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, the
University of Washington and Exit133. Learn more by clicking
