Here's the lowdown from Boating Magazine on the Bermuda Challenge Trophy:
BOATING'S BERMUDA CHALLENGE
Intent:
Besides the obvious PR benefits for boat builders and engine
manufacturers, Boating magazine's mission in staging this event is to
support the betterment of offshore boats and a higher level of
seamanship. It is there to set an example of what well-prepared boats
and crews are capable of.
The Rules:
The Cup is offered to production boats of 40' and under. There
will be two classes. One for outboards, the other for inboards and
stern drives. The run is from the Hudson River, just off the entrance
to the Liberty Harbor Marina in New Jersey, to Bermuda off Gates Fort
on the Town Cut Channel to St. George. Boating magazine will be the
official timer. Besides this, there are no other rules.
The Trophy:
One for each class, being reissued as the record is broken in each class.
Entrant's Responsibilities:
Each entrant should be aware that Boating magazine is only
covering the event and providing a trophy. The setting up of the run,
its dates, publicity, liability coverage, safety, logistics, crew
support and entertaining will be up to the entrant. Each attempt is
done solely at the entrant's own risk. For safety's sake, we suggest
that entrants file a float plan with someone here in the U.S., and
with Bermuda Harbour Radio.
