Before I became enamored of powercats I looked into a variety of
"interesting" boats. One that proves your point was a 50' tunnel drive motoryacht with a
mere 2' - 2" draft (built by Covey I Boatworks in Canada). Imagining all
the places we could go with that shoal draft I tracked the boat and took a
look. It was a gorgeous small yacht and it cost the owner just under 1 million
dollars to build. Three years later, it was on the market for $550K. I
later heard he'd ended up taking under $400 for it. Incidentally, it did have
only one master suite - although there were a couple of sailboat-like v-berths
tucked way up in the bow.
This was about the time I realized that powercats offer a lot of room for
their size. I believe our little PDQ 34 has more usable space than that custom
50-footer - and almost the same shallow draft!
