Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsAnother question on Navionics tab;let, but mine is a XOOM.
The advantage of XOOM isthat it has a real GPS chip, unlike the IPad which
uses cell towers to simulate GPS positioning, but does not work out of
tower range. My normal connection is only WiFi
BUT, I tried to open Naviniocs today. It's first task was to try to verify
my license via Internet. Since I was not connected (was in an airplane) I
could not get past that screen. I think Navionics only does this
periodically, I have been able to open while not internet connected. But,
it does make it useless if you cannot depend on it opening when not
connected.
Anyone have a fix?

The iPad 2 can be purchased with an internal GPS and does not need wifi.MIke
Bob, the iPad 3G does have a real GPS chip, and does not need either a 3G
or WiFi connection for the GPS to work...
