Permaculture is a design system for creating sustainable human habitat
(food, water, shelter), etc that comes out of Australia. It's based on
innovations from earth-based people around the world and applied to heal
our modern industrial setting. It's basic course (first step in becoming a
permaculture designer) comes from the international 72 hour curriculum,
usually taught in a 2 week class with lots of hands-on installations. It
teaches:
*Mapping & Design
*Soils and Composting
*Edible Plants & Mushrooms
*Polyculture and Food Forest Gardens
*Incorporating Livestock and Animals
*Rainwater Catchment
*Greywater
*Natural Building
*Appropriate Technology
*A final project design of various sites (these are all based in Parkland).
*lots more
About this Permaculture course:
The PLU Sustainability Office is able to offer the reDesign House (515
125th St S) as a venue for instruction and implementation. The dates are
August 3-15. A usual rate for an individual to take a permaculture course
is $1,000, so far community collaborations bring it down to $700 for
non-Parkland residents, though we're encouraging $900 if you can help
sponsor another attendee. The cost is based off of 13 full days of
instruction, hands-on materials, lunch and coffee for participants, etc.
Primary instruction by Kelda Lorax. David Zhang co-teaching. Scott Elliott
assistant teaching. Romajean Thomas on traditional indigenous foods.
Daniel Heath on mycology. Ulysses Martin on mapping. Warren Gohl on
herbalism. Jessica Schilke on Aquaponics. Bruce Hostetter on water
systems. Johnnie Pratt, Michele Dryden, and Rachael Dye on animal
ecologies. Chrissy Cooley on energy conservation. Joseph Becker on
