If you stop at Illion on the erie canal to see the factory tour at Remington Arms. it has been cancelled permanently.
The museum is still there.  They have a nice film that shows the manufacture of several long guns. It's amazing to see the skill and technology in making a rifle.

Very sad! Probably has something to do with New York's new gun laws....

I believe that several states, Oklahoma among them, are courting arms and related industries to relocate from NY and CO to friendlier climes for them.

I greatly enjoyed the tour and am sorry it has been shutdown but not
surprised.  My guess is that liability concerns was the primary reason for
stopping the tours. We were walked thru an operating factory with heavy
equipment (many moving metal parts) within an easy arms reach.  In many
places there were just minimal  physical barriers(fence/guards) between us
the the operating machinery.  In other locations just a yellow line on the
floor and a caution to not touch anything.  With us on the tour were
several young children generally unsupervised by their parents continually
wanting to test "Darwin".  It is a shame but understandable.  Perhaps they
can restructure it to mitigate the safety/liability issues and still permit
the public to view this fascinating manufacturing process.  The Custom
shop was particularly fascinating and the artistic skill of these gunsmiths
amazing.

Joe: I got the idea from the receptionist at the Muesum that the factory tours got discontinued a few years ago. All the reason you mentioned make sense to me. Also their is a rumor Remington might move out of the state of New York due to the unfavorable attitude the State of New York is generating toward Guns. As you know it is a very old facility they are in and who knows maybe a new plant in a new area with some enticing tax breaks some other state may lure Remington away from New York.

The receptionist said they had a lot of protestors after sandy point tragedy. They even closed the museum for six months.
Please do not start a political exchange here. This was just tourist information that I presented as neutrally as possible.
