Wx: Wind SE 5 to 15 kts (10 to 30km)
Water temp: 12.5D C
Crew: Ben, Brad & Kevin
Remarks:
Note:
We invite everyone near Vancouver to meet us on our arrival, or in the few
days thereafter, at Shelter Island Marina; we'll be near the west end of the
docks. We expect to arrive at noon August 11.
The wind is on our stern. We haven't had a lot of that, but it helps our
comfort and our speed. We are technically going the wrong way around the
world, the trade winds go the other way. Our direction was dictated by ice
conditions in the Arctic. Because we got to the Arctic Ocean near its
middle, we wanted to start our trail south of the Arctic Circle; either in
the Atlantic, or Pacific, to make the full crossing of the Arctic Ocean in
one-year if possible. Because the Western Arctic opened first in 2005, we
went there to start our circumnavigation. We thought we wouldn't have to
contend with ice in 2006 if we went south of the Bering Strait in 2005, to
start, but we were a little early this year; although the ice proved not to
be a major obstacle.
