Happy New Year to All of You.
On December 27th, 30 field and 29 feeder observers participated in the 70th Carleton Place CBC. The weather was mild with little snow cover and open water.
8338 individuals and 51 species were recorded which was very close to our all time high numbers. There were 4 count week species in addition to the 51 and 8 records tied or broken.
- Green-winged Teal – 1 – a first ever
- Mallard – record high 95
- Bald Eagle - record 7
- Sharp-shinned Hawk – tied the record at 3
- Raven – record at 86
- White-breasted Nuthatch – record at 265
- Cardinal at 93
There were tons of Redpolls (1326) with a couple of Hoarys, good numbers of Bohemians (446), and raptors (RTHK, RLHK, SSHK, COHK, Snowy, GH and Barred Owls. A Towhee continues at a feeder, a couple of Red-winged Blackbirds and a Bluebird.
