Thanks for your info about the Nova Kool fridge, I wrote them at the email address you gave me and had a reply 20 minutes later. Now I'll have to find some time to check their suggestions and see what's going on.
Thanks!

Subject: RE: Boat Refrigerator
Hello Fred,
Sorry for the problem,
If the voltage right at the unit is okay
Then the failure is
-stiff bearing on the fan overloading the fan circuit and shutting down, (I would disconnect one of the wires to the fan and see if the compressor will start and stay running)
-a loose connection can cause this (in particular check the resistor on the thermostat circuit ( should be on the "T" or "C"
-lastly a failed compressor module
Best regards
Sean

Subject: Boat Refrigerator
Sir,
I have a refrigerator on my boat, it's a Nova Kool RFY8000DC running on 12 Volts DC.
When I switch it on via the thermostat switch, the compressor and the fan both start running, then both switch off after about 3-4 seconds and stay off for about a minute. Then this cycle repeats automatically, as it tries to get running every minute..
There is no problem with voltage, no problem with dust or ice or anything else obvious. The unit is clean and dry and ice-free... and warm.
Can you suggest what may be the problem with this unit?
Fred
