Ring in the New Year on Dec. 31 with a Light Parade and a live outdoor
event with DJ music, clowns, dance, interactive light art, community
art-making, food trucks, NYE countdown with Tacoma’s Sister City
Cienfuegos, Cuba and more. Live event rain or shine. 6-10pm at Tollefson
Plaza, 1548 Commerce St.

LIGHT & SOUND TRAIL Dec. 31 – Jan. 14, 2024
Over 40 venues will host light art, from illuminated sculpture and
painting to projection. Highlights include an illuminated ballroom, 4ft
illuminated hummingbird, glowing Slavik trees of life and projected
Afrofuturism illuminations. Tacoma’s downtown core and the Hilltop
neighborhood are both walkable districts and each light art location can be
found on an interactive web map https://www.tacomalighttrail.org/map/
as well as a printed map at local libraries.
Selected artwork is paired with local music or poetry, discovered via QR
code posters. Light art will be visible 5-9 p.m. every night, and is
walkable/rideable/drivable within the downtown core. A Lighted Bike Ride
will tour selected locations on Jan. 4 at 6pm, led by Downtown on the Go
(start location information: https://downtownonthego.com ).
Artists include Daniel Baptista, Aleeza McCant, Steve LaBerge, Marcel
Marias, Eileen Fitz-Falkner, Chelsea Berry and more. Locations include
the Convention Center, Pantages Theater, UWT, Foss Waterway Seaport and
local businesses.
LUMENS CONCERTS
Indoor, intimate and illuminated: Two Lumens concerts are on the Trail
this year, featuring music and dance bathed in light art at Trail

1102 A St. Featuring wall-to-ceiling light projection by Marcell Marius,
Helen Thorsen Dancers, and music by Guitarist Ian Croker and
more. Cash bar.

T.U.P.A.C. Lit Up! 6-9pm January 13 at 1105 Martin Luther King Junior
Way. Featuring RUB Band, PNW Dance Foundation, Jasmine Brown, community
lantern project and a poetry open mic.
Also join us for our Light Up Bike Ride, 6-9pm January 4 at 1201 Pacific
Ave, Tacoma, Wa, 98402. Come light up your bike with Downtown On the Go and
join us for the 3rd annual Light Up Bike Ride! Our route will include 20
sparkling Light art spots to view!
Trail-goers are encouraged to wear or bring light to the festival: LED
umbrellas, fairy light tutus flashing shoes or lanterns. Live events are
partially live streamed and all art is visible on the website, for those
who can’t come in person.
The Trail is supported by Tacoma Creates, City of Tacoma Special Events,
Greater Tacoma Community Foundation, Spaceworks and others. Fiscally
sponsored by Shunpike, a 501c3 nonprofit.
