Georgs and the list
This is a distinguished list of adventurers and I have heard of
most of them and read about others, the most recent was David Scott
Cowper whose book I recommended on this list. My goal in life now is to
add my and my wife's name to the roll of circumnavigators.
I would like to hear from those out there that are planning to
go around regardless of where in the process you are. In the next few
days I will post our intentions under the heading of "Planned
Circumnavigation" and I encourage the rest to do the same.
As you can see from the list below, there have not been that
many people who have done it; I believe that there are many, many more
that are planning to. I would like to know things like direction, port
of departure, time frame for departure, countries to visit, planned time
length of voyage, description of boat you have or boat you plan to get,
number of crew, special considerations and special equipment, places to
avoid, etc.
If your plans are in their infancy just say we plan to do it in
2008 and your name or names. I'll keep track and post the names and
departure estimates from time to time in hopes that those people will
update everyone on additional information or changes.
We're planning our departure in 2006 and we need lots of help.

I'm getting ready to update the honor roll of circumnavigators under
power for Circumnavigator 2006-07 that will be published this fall.
Since the original list below was published, I've heard only of one
possible circumnavigation by a Hatteras motor yacht and the
successful completion of a circumnavigation by Spirit of Cardiff, a
33-foot hard-bottom inflatable. There are several trawler yachts in
the final stages of voyaging around the world, and a dozen or more
under way.
Has anyone heard of a circumnavigation than I may have missed?

Hello PUP,
In response to Randal Johnson's request for circumnavigation plans here is
some info on us. We are hoping to do some serious cruising in the future
with the goal of circumnavigation. We originally thought we would start in
2006. However it is looking more and more like 2007. Here is our site:
We do have more specific routes and ports of call in mind, but they are not
published yet. We would love to hook up with anyone here on the list during
travels or otherwise.
Life is pretty hectic right now. We are working like crazy trying to save
up enough to do the trip. Some people think we are insane, while others
have been quite supportive. Time will tell if we can do the whole
circumnavigation.
Rick Redfern noted a quote from Mark Twain. We read that quote often; it is
at the top of our notebook we use to keep track of our boat planning.

Randal and list
Well all I know is I do not want to be in Vancouver in 2010 . My plan
took shape about 12 years ago after divorce and moving on to a boat to
Live - a - board. I note divorce seems to be a major contributor to life
aboard <grin>.
A good friend Gregg Marshall lent me the book "Passagemaking Under
Power" ( I think that's the title <grin> ). I have always dreamed of living
and cruising around on my own boat, at least as long as I can remember. He
remembered my dream and got me going again by lending me that book
Part of the plan was having to create a nest egg again, that would
enable me to do this so I started a Company. That ends up to have been a
really great choice.
I then lucked out and now have a life partner (the Admiral ) that both
moved on the boat and is now a shareholder of the company I founded. Over
ten years of living and then working together 24- 7. The dream for me could
not be realized with out her.
My original plan was to move up in boats times three to end up with
something that could do the trip. But then the fishing industry collapsed
and boats came to the market that had been out there doing it. So after a
few years looking we picked out the boat cheap. That leaves us with more to
place in the nest. At 39 feet , converted from a fishing boat she will be
small very small for a circumnavigation. After four years converting , I
truly believe the little boat can do it. There is still lots of work left to
do on the boat but it comes. I will know Invader inside and out several
times over by the time we get to go.
First trip is to spend 6 months or so around Vancouver Island through
the winter months and spring visiting all my old spots friends - family etc
on the coast. Hope for 2007 / 2008.
We then want to head down to Mexico in the fall and spend a winter in the
sea of Cortez. Possibly further south for summer but time will tell 2008 /
2009
The Idea then is to return north and continue through to Alaska around
the Aleutians to Russia / Japan / Asia etc. Backwards some might say. Then
take a look at actually circumnavigating from that point. We might just do a
Pacific circle from there who knows.
I truly love people and want to visit and enjoy other cultures.
Experience life from others view. Not just cruise by, but live there for
some time when I find a spot. I hope to work in some areas as we cruise,
fortunately that might be possible with the industry I am in. Again only
time will tell if that's for us.
Its still only a dream at this stage but it gets closer. Time along with
some hard work , our dream is possible. As we get closer to departure the
Admiral is gettin a bit scared but I look forward to the life experience.
So I might be on my own for the off shore stuff and looking for crew. On a
39 foot boat that is a challenge on its own <grin>.
Life is short and can be taken in a second. I have had several second
chances and beat some odds. I can always do this again if the cruise plans
do not pan out.
Get out there and go, simple really.
