This Saturday, July 11th the Tacoma Food Co-op invites you to join us for
a tour of Tahoma Farms. The tour is kid-friendly, free and open to the
community. Participants should plan their own transportation to and from
the farm, located at 21108 Orville Rd E, Orting, WA, and plan to meet at
Tahoma Farms at 2:00pm. We will plan on wrapping up the visit around
4:00pm. Drinks and a light snack will be provided.
Event Description:
Come see a newly established (2009) 40 acre organic fruit and vegetable
farm in Orting. Throughout the year, the Co-op produce department features
Tahoma-grown produce, including root vegetables, rainbow chard, sugar snap
peas, and sun chokes. We will look at the farm's facilities for
post-harvest handling, and talk about food safety in the context of
Tahoma's newly certified Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) facility. The
farm is also looking at agritourism opportunities and will discuss the
vision for that component of the farm and look for input from the Co-op
community. For more information visit www.tahomafarms.com.
