Dear IMLA Police Alternatives Group:

Attached please find a complaint filed against Washington County, Oregon claiming that the County's use of law enforcement to respond to individuals experiencing mental health emergencies is discriminatory.  They bring claims under Title II of the ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.  They are seeking declaratory and injunctive relief that would require the County to operate an emergency response program that would provide "comparable responses to physical health emergencies ad mental health emergencies, and that ensure that mental health professionals are the default first responders for typical mental health emergencies."  They are also seeking attorney's fees.

As a reminder, we have canceled the call for this group scheduled for 2/20 but we can pick up the discussion on this topic and others during our March meeting.

Thank you,

Amanda
