In his essay, "Politics and the English language"
George Orwell wrote, "if thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought." Here he is not referring to censorship as such, rather to an insidious "decadence of our language" that can be hard to see because it is so engrained. Not so hard to see are the more blatant and clumsy censorious efforts at thought control reported in the Washington Post (December 15, 2017)

According to the article, at a recent meeting of senior budget officials at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention employees were told that,"... seven words and phrases - "diversity," ''entitlement," ''fetus," transgender," ''vulnerable," ''evidence-based" and "science-based" - were not to be used in documents that are to be circulated within the federal government and Congress in preparation of the next presidential budget proposal..." According to another report, employees at the agency were also told not to use the term "health equity."
