National Coalition for Literacy Discussion List
View all threadsHi folks,
In case you haven't already seen -- the federal application process for the Perkins Innovation and Modernization Grant Program is open. The Notice Inviting Applications is here: https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2019/04/15/2019-07456/applications-for-new-awards-perkins-innovation-and-modernization-grant-program and the other materials are at grants.govhttp://grants.gov.
Additional information on the grant and information about an upcoming pre-application webinar can be found on www.cte.ed.govhttp://www.cte.ed.gov/. The deadline to apply is June 14, 2019.
This grant opportunity is a good chance for adult education leaders to nudge their state CTE partners to think creatively in designing their grant applications. As you know, thanks to our friend Senator Jack Reed, the Perkins Act that passed in 2018 includes new provisions pushing states to include their adult education directors in the planning process.
States could think much more creatively about on-ramps for adult learners to get into postsecondary CTE programs, or even strategies to blend adult ed and CTE resources for IET programs as outlined in our Better Together brief about El Paso earlier this year (https://www.nationalskillscoalition.org/news/blog/better-together-how-adult-edcte-collaborations-benefit-workers-and-businesses)
If you're engaged in this effort in your state, please let me know!
