It is not my intent to stir this up again but.........I am serious about
trying to understand this subject. It is important.
When my reefer kicks on, my DC Ampmeter says I am drawing 4 amps. Now I
know that doesn't mean I draw 4 amps per second, per minute, etc. My
understanding was, it is a measurement of amp draw over an hour of time.
Based on some "off the list" responses I got, I miscalculated a few things
relative to my T105's and my house draw (that got me in electrical
trouble), and part of it might be my misunderstanding of what my DC
ampmeter is saying. Isn't it saying (oversimplification), that if my reefer
runs for 1 hour, it has truly drawn 4 amps from my house batteries? If my
reefer runs for 30 minutes and shuts off for 30 minutes, isn't it saying I
only draw 2 amps for that hour from the house bank. Isn't the primary
measurement of house batteries in amps over time?
I know this is a gross over simplification......but it is my current
understanding. It is how I have been planning my electrical demand and
supply. If it is wrong I am open to another way of looking at it. My end
goal is to be sure that I don't under estimate the needs of the 'house' and
to make sure I have ample battery power for the needs. I thought I
understood this pretty well, and now I'm beginning to think I was wrong.
Thank God for generators.
