All hands--
Ben Gray emailed me to report that Idlewild is now in Hay River on
Great Slave Lake.
Soon, the transit of the mighty Mackenzie River will begin, with
grandchildren Ryan, 8, Scot, 6, Mikayla, 7, and Trenton, 5, aboard
the aluminum yacht. Hay River, in the Northwest Territories, is
reachable by road from Alberta when the Grays live.
At some 1,100 miles, the Mackenzie is the longest river in Canada,
flowing into the Arctic Ocean, specifically the Beaufort Sea, where
Idlewild's transit of the Northwest Passage will begin.

Thus far, the crazy Canucks have pulled and pushed the 15-ton
Idlewild over two difficult portages, 10 miles on the Peace River
around the Vermillion Chutes and 13 miles on the Slave River.
I neglected to mention that Idlewild had wheels welded on for the
portages, wheels that were removed at Fort Smith after the portage on
the Slave.
