Yesterday, flock of mixed shorebirds, 300 estimate, Sanderlings and Dunlin at Sasco Creek Beach, Pequot Ave., Southport. Afternoon, Sunday as tide turned, this large flock repeatedly lifted off from exposed substrate to find new roosts. For at least a half an hour this large flock flew back and forth making for an impressive murmuration display. No human or dog or bird of prey caused these flights and the flashing of dark birds into white as they changed direction under a brilliant sun and was worthy of an Attenborough moment. Nice start to New Year.

Maybe at the places we visited there were people walking the beach, kite
surfers and low tide. Bad combination for shorebirds and sea ducks. Or
maybe just my usual bad luck.
