On Saturday 3/15 the South Sound chapter of Surfrider will have a beach
clean-up at Titlow Park in Tacoma from 10 AM to noon, followed by a
barbeque, and then water-quality training for volunteers who'd like to help
us monitor local beaches. The training probably won't last more than a
half hour.
Surfrider has been sampling Ruston Way beaches every month for three years,
and have secured equipment and materials for the Science and Math Institute
(SAMI) at Point Defiance, whose students and staff perform the analysis,
and post the results on line. The data is reviewed by the Pierce County
Health Department.
We would like to expand the monitoring program to other local public
beaches, and welcome volunteers who might help us. If you're interested,
please contact brucehoeft3@gmail.com.
