Yesterday was a weather event.  Coming from the State, the Dept. of Public Safety and Governor send notices to employees about weather closures.  This can be county by county or area wide.  However, I don't think Cities ever close.  A friend that works at OKC told me OKC has not closed in 17 years and others here have told me Bethany closed only once in about 20 years due to no power.  Bethany ordinances requires the City Clerk to have City Hall open  8-5 Mon -Fri, bit that assumes no emergency.

I'm just wondering if that's all cities and the origin of that.

We closed once for ½ a day.  Everyone who came in was given 4 hours of admin leave for that afternoon.  Those who did not come in were required to use 8 hours of vacation.  One of our labor unions argued that it was unfair for those that did not come in to be charged 8 hours of vacation - i.e., the should only be required to use 4 hours of vacation and should be given 4 hours of admin leave for the afternoon.  Although he vehemently disagreed, the city manager finally relented.  And then vowed that we would never close again.

That's the argument given to me by an ex-policeman now working for the City on a different capacity.  The unions would negotiate that leave issue at contract time.  Hearing your story, I he might have been correct.

Midwest City likewise hardly ever closes for weather, we did not close
yesterday, though our Juvenile Court docket yesterday was continued.
