Erie Canal

The early word from reliable sources is that all hell broke loose around
Herkimer on the Erie Canal, something like 6 inches of rain all at once.
They had already lifted the dams at most locations, but were not able to
manage it fast enough at Locks E-12 and E-14.  There is a debris field at
Lock E-14 a quarter mile long and that is hindering the self-propelled
scows from getting close enough to have a look to see if anything is
damaged.

There is no way the Erie will open for another week, and it may well be two
more weeks.

If you can manage to get under bridges at 17 feet, you may wish to consider
the Champlain Canal.

I'm waiting for certain folks to get back from the damaged area, so I can
get some more info, which I will post when available.

It's not a good day today.

All is well ion the Champlain Canal, though water levels are a bit
elevated.  No damage on the Champlain.
