Responding to an off-line comment...
My very best wishes. I'm not even going to ask whether
the doctor thinks its a good idea for you to go.
Actually, I was very clear with the doctors about my plans.
They weren't thrilled about it, but they were much relieved
when I promised that we were not leaving for a few more
days. They would've liked me to hang around for a week
or two, but they were happy for me to commit to 5 days!
Seriously, that must have been very scary ...
Yup. But somehow I managed to keep my wits about me
and I made an intelligible call to 911. After advising them
of an "on-going cardiac event" and giving directions to the
boat, I managed to wake up another crew member and
sent him up on shore to direct the paramedics to the
docks.
One thing that both the paramedics and cardiologists told
me was that I was very very wise not to delay in making
the 911 call. They say that many people just try to wait
it out, and end up waiting too long, so that much heart
muscle damage occurs. Prompt treatment is essential to
limit the effects of a heart attack.
And don't think that just because your're young it can't
happen to you. I'm only 51, and reasonably healthy, and
it happened to me.
