Bob, Peter and others--
So . . . has anyone come across news of a power catamaran that has
capsized? I've asked also on the Power Catamaran List and a bunch of
people in Australia and New Zealand (where power multihulls are
popular) but am coming up empty.
I do know about the pontoon boat in Baltimore harbor but that was
more a contraption than a vessel.

There was one well documented (video from news chopper) incident where a
power cat surf boat got rolled while attempting to rescue a sailboat
that got rolled close to shore when it was becalmed and the rigging
tangled his prop. I don't know if that counts but the power cat got
rolled when it tangled with the breaking crest beam on as it tried to
turn about and make another attempt to reach the sailboat occupants.
We used the video as a training aid on our Power Squadron classes fro
quite a few years. The initial incident must be 15 years back or older.

There was a French made cat that was crossing the Atlantic about 5 years ago
that capsized. The crew was pickup by a passing cargo ship and the boat was
lashed to the side. It was written up in Passage Maker Mag with an interview
of the ship captain - well done.
