Join People for Puget Sound for a pair of workshops about how to use sustainable rainwater features at home

Saturday, June 18

Where:
City of Tacoma EnviroHouse (3510 S. Mullen, Tacoma, near the entrance to the Tacoma Landfill)

Workshop 1 - About LID and porous paving
10:30 to 11 a.m. - Why use low-impact development techniques?
11 a.m. to Noon - Porous paving: Driveways, paths and patios
Hear experts explain the benefits and how-to's of sustainable rainwater management in your yard including porous paving for driveways, pathways and patios.

Lunch
Noon to 12:30 p.m.  - A small lunch will be provided
Bring a sketch or photo of your yard so you can discuss where sustainable rainwater features might work best on your property.

Workshop 2 - Rain gardens
12:30 to 1:15 p.m. - How-to: Rain Gardens and bio-retention swales
1:30 to 2 p.m. - A walking tour of residential rain gardens.
Learn about how rain gardens work and how they can benefit your home and community, then tour the grounds of the EnviroHouse to see examples of ways to help rainwater soak in on site.  Then the group will move to downtown Tacoma's Hilltop area to learn how the Hilltop Action Coalition and neighbors on the 1700 block of L Street cooperated with the City and Stewardship Partners to bring rain gardens to their street. David Hymel, from Stewardship Partners, will lead this tour.
