[Ontbirds] 43rd Burk's Fall CBC

The 43rd Burk's Falls CBC was held on Wednesday, December 18th.  There were
20 field observers, supported by three feeder watchers.  The weather was
partly cloudy and the temperatures was -12C at dawn and -19C at dusk.

A total of 30 species representing 2,397 individuals were recorded.

Trumpeter Swan - 2 - at Magnetawan dam, 7th time this decade

Wild Turkey - 53 was a new high

Ruffed Grouse - 16 - highest since 2008 count

Golden Eagle - 1 - 4th time on the count

Mourning Dove - 63 - new high

Bohemian Waxwing - 12 - 8th time on count

American Tree Sparrow - 79 - highest since 2002

Dark-eyed Junco - 58 - highest since 2006

White-throated Sparrow - 1 - 9th time on count

White-winged Crossbill - 3 - 7th time this decade

Pine Siskin - 56 - 4th time this decade

Notable Absences

Gull species - three species were seen the day prior to the count but non on
count day

Northern Shrike - first time since 2009 it has been missed

Canada Jay - only the 4th time it has not been recorded

Winter Finches - no Pine Grosbeak, Red Crossbill, either Redpoll, and
Evening Grosbeak

House Sparrow - 3rd consecutive count it has been absent
