44th North Bay Christmas Bird Count, December 17, 2022 - Preliminary

Most Abundant Birds Observed: American Crows, Common Ravens,
Black-capped Chickadees and Mallards were abundant; Hairy and Downy
Woodpeckers and White-breasted Nuthatches were frequent; a number of Hooded
Mergansers and Common Goldeneye were observed in the open waters; Bald
Eagles were maintaining their numbers; Evening Grosbeaks were well counted,
with most other finch species observed.
All-time High Count Species: Red- tailed Hawk - 3 were observed in 3
different areas.
Specialty and Out-of -season Birds Observed: 3 Canada Geese; 1
Red-bellied Woodpecker; 2 Brown Creepers; 2 Robins; 1 Gray Catbird; 1 Brown
Thrasher; 80 Bohemian Waxwings; 5 Tree Sparrows and 3 Dark-eyed Juncos
remaining at feeders; 3 Northern Cardinals and 4 Common Grackles
Misses and Poorly Represented: Owls 0; Northern Shrike 0; Canada Jay 0;
Blue Jays 53; Red-breasted Nuthatches 8; Kinglets 0; Snow Bunting 0; Purple
Finch 0; Red and White-winged Crossbills 0.
Totals: 37 species and over 3300 individuals
