Thought some of you might be interested in this... on my recent business
trip I cleverly arranged to have a free weekend in Australia, and used
it by traveling with my friend (and fellow TAPR board member) Darryl
Smith, VK2TDS, to the 64M radio telescope in Parkes, about 350km from
Sydney. This is the antenna that was used to receive the video from the
Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969, which is described in the really good
(but somewhat fictionalized) movie "The Dish".
One of Darryl's friends' brother is a long-time staffer at the site, so
we got the real tour of the place. It was pretty amazing. I've put
some pictures up at http://www.febo.com/travels/parkes/index.html if
you're interested.

PS -- this is a dish that even Murph would have trouble hauling home!
And, I wonder if Gerd managed to get there on his Australia trip?
