Question:
Can a person use Rain-X on esign (?) glass or EZ2CY?
Answer:
Yes - but be aware that Rain X is no wet weather panacea. Rain X correctly
applied to a window causes rain to collect in tiny droplets that can be blown
off the surface by a slight wind. The boat must be moving at a reasonable
speed
for Rain X to have any effect. I would estimate that the true wind speed
(combined ambient wind on the bow and boat speed) must be ten knots or greater
for
it to have any effect. Otherwise the visibility can be just as poor, or
poorer, than with an untreated surface. After all, Rain X was developed for
automobiles which generally travel faster than 10 mph.

I think the angle of the glass is important. Mine is vertical. I
apply Rain-X every second year and am careful not to clean with
anything but water and a little vinegar. The rain beads up and the
weight of the drops causes them to run off - even when there is no
wind and the boat is stopped.
Don't see any use for wipers.

I agree with Terry on the angle of the glass. My pilothouse glass slopes at
a shallow angle and Rain-X doesn't work well at all.
Isn't there a special product for use on Plexiglas? I thought the Rain-X
bottle said that it causes yellowing on plastics.

How does it work on salt spray?

The role of Stratoglass we bought last year said not to use Rain X as it
would eventually cloud the material. Not sure about EZECY. I have used it
on helmet visors for many years with good results, better than windshield
wipers and no yellowing.

Works the same as with rain. Tamarack is a very 'wet' boat (no bow
flare or spray rails) and we never have a problem with it - just
cascades off. When the residual moisture eventually dries the salt
content leaves the glass hazy. That's when a sponge and bucket of
warm water with vinegar comes into play - then polish with paper towel.

From my experience, the "Rain View" product from Starbrite works better
then Rain X. I do not have wipers on my boat and have not needed them
and don't plan to install them.
