Volunteers count all the birds they can find and hear within a specific 15-mile diameter circle on one day, with the data used to monitor bird populations, understand their health, and guide conservation efforts. It is the longest-running citizen science survey in the world, with origins dating back to 1900. If you have never participated in one before, this may be the year to give it a try.
