Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes

I operate the Towboat US ports on the south end of Lake
Michigan(Waukegan,Chicago,Hammond,Michigan City,New Buffalo and Illinois Waterway), last year i
had occasion to tow a 24' Rosborough on Lake Michigan. He had damage to his
Honda lower unit, no problem with the boat. The weather got bad and his boat
was riding better than my Almar towboat, and the Almars are no slouch at
weather. By the end of the tow I was wishing I was in his boat.
Thereafter I looked into using one of them as a towboat as they make a
really nice commercial model. I was stymied by the requirement that commercially
documented boats in the US must be US built, looking for a way around the Jones
act at this time(for other reasons also).
I would not flinch at all in using that boat for the loop, with the usual
caveat about weather selection. In my estimation they are great boats, and are
among the most seaworthy for their size around.
There are 2 24' models around the area and both are impressive in economy
and seakeeping. Both use 4 cycle O/B power and seem to extract the most in
performance from their horsepower.
If you see us on your trip give us a call, hopefully just to chat, and don't
forget to get the unlimited towing coverage!
