Great news/sobering news

Hello NCL colleagues,

As I'm sure you've seen ED has announced 95 (!!) finalists for their adult
ed pre-apprenticeship challenge. While it is terrific news that so many
organizations have submitted promising ideas, it's pretty sobering that
they got this many applications for what is in reality a fairly paltry
amount of money. Just $750,000 total is available as part of this
challenge.

I'm wondering how we might frame this in our conversations with
policymakers and funders. This is vivid evidence of UNMET DEMAND in the
adult ed field for funding to support pre-apprenticeships. Given that we
know how important adult education is as an on-ramp for under-represented
individuals, and how important apprenticeship is as an "earn while you
learn" strategy for low-income people, this seems like a no-brainer to
highlight in any way that we can.

What are folks' thoughts?

-Amanda

Agreed - Amanda!  Especially when this falls under the 'rethink adult
education' header.

Obviously there's a great deal of terrific work being done (see list of 95
sites here https://www.rethinkadulted.com/finalists/) and what is needed is
resources!  Thanks for flagging this and reminding us all to keep raising
the resources issue.
