From my recent experience in a number of fora in Europe , Web Science, and Internet Science are a new group of computer science people waking up the need for a multi-disciplinary approach to understanding the web, 'inviting' social scientists to start paying attention to the the Internet, and talking about a multidisciplinary approach. However, when pressed, what is wanted is social science to start using computer science methods, so that they can understand what it is we are on about.

However the development of interest in a multidisciplinary 'WebScience', and the accompanying money and hype is certainly an opportunity to open new research avenues and relationships.
