Prairie Restoration Project Seeks Learning Volunteers

Is golf your game? Even if it's not, YOUR participation in this golf course
prairie habitat restoration project is invited!

WHAT:            Prairie Planting, Weed ID & Pull

WHEN:            Saturday, September 25, 2010 - 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

WHERE:            Meadow Park Golf Course
(meet at Clubhouse Grill for snacks, coffee and
juice, on us!)
7108 Lakewood Dr W, Tacoma, WA

WHY:              Demonstrate resource savings while creating beautiful &
beneficial habitat

HOW:              Tools, gloves, refreshments, fun and educational resources
to be provided!

Join native plant stewards for a look at how we are tackling a weedy site
while introducing rare and otherwise floriferous species.  We plan to keep
not only golfers at play but birders and other nature buffs involved in the
understanding and re-creation of the prairie habitat that once dominated the
Puget Sound Basin. Volunteers will learn about common weeds and how to
identify them when they are germinating. There will be two full-color weed
ID guides for you to take home. Along with other soil and rain garden
displays being installed at this site, you'll also get to see the prairie
species that are sprouting in our "Mima Mound" display. Stewards are also
planning a future interpretive trail for birders, students and urban
naturalists. Your input will help to make the project better.
