Can anyone tell us what the draft is going into the Silver glen springs?

Also, is the old boat museum in Welatka still open after the owners death?

Thanks, Jim

Subject: St John's notes

Just checked the notes we got last year from Kismet. They went to Silver Glenn Springs on the west side of Lake George at about the 110 mile marker. The spring goes 3/4 mile off the Lake, where the water is 72 degrees etc. Did you all go there?

Check out our blog. If your draft is three feet or less and you have
local knowledge, you should be able to get into Silver Glen Springs on
the St. Johns River. Anything over that is iffy, but you still might be
able to do it if you can scope out the channel in a dinghy with a
portable depth sounder in advance. There is NO MARKED CHANNEL to get you
from the lake into the springs but there are a few buoys once you're in
the springs!

As far as the museum at Welaka (not Welatka) is concerned, it was open
when we cruised the St. Johns River in 2010, but I'd try to find a
number and give them a call to make certain. The museum's web site seems
to be down and there's no telephone number listed on the internet.
Perhaps a call to the city hall would provide you with some information
about the status of the museum today.

Welaka is still a good stop as a place to stretch your legs and eat in a
restaurant with the free town dock, but no handy shopping.

Jim,

It was open in April 2011 when we stopped in.  The nephew? of the owner was
running it.  There is a free dock there and a great restaurant up the road
but within walking distance.

Hello,

We were at Silver Glen Springs last week.  I agree that a draft of 3 feet or
less would be very advantageous to entering the Springs.  There is a marked
channel but a couple of the markers are out of place.

We also visited Welaka.  We tried to visit the wooden boat museum only to
learn it was closed indefinitely.  The owner hnd died as well as the
relative that had taken his place.  While we were standing outside the
museum door....several visitors came and left.

There is up to date information on these places at Active Captain.

Dan
