Date/time: Aug 10, 2006, 12:00 local (z-8) Yesterday, arrived Comox at 12:10: 49D40.154'N 124D55.594'W Position last night at Tribune Bay on Hornby Island: 49D30.983'N 124D38.183'W Position at Noon: 49D24'N 124D12'W Wx: Wind, W 20kts (40km), partly cloudy Crew: Ben, Brad, Kevin, Chip, Jodie, Ryan, Scott, Mikayla, Trenton, Kim, John, Darryl & Lorelei [Where did all their life jackets come from?] Remarks: New crew arrivals in Comox; Kim Lofstrom, John Laninga, Darrel & Lorelei Talbot. Also Ken & Jeanne Lutes were there from down island for a nice visit for a short while. Leave Comox 14:30, lovely afternoon and evening visiting with new crewmembers. Lorelei caught a dog fish and when she got it to surface she was pulling hard with considerable excitement, the hook pulled out, and flew high in the air, and hooked Kevin's arm on the way down. We had a large halibut hook on with an 8-ounce weight, so it buried deep in Kevin's arm. Fortunately Jodie is a nurse, and Chip a dental surgeon, and as well we had a full medical kit for world cruising; so Chip froze the area, I cut the shank off the hook, and Chip worked the barbed hook through the flesh until it came out. I was glad Chip was here, or I would have had to do it. Also, if it had to be someone, it was fortunate it was Kevin as he showed no pain or nervousness through the whole ordeal watching the needles, and pushing the big hook through. Kevin has had a ruptured spleen, and many broken bones racing motocross, so this was a nonissue. A nice night last night, but a little more breeze than usual.
