The surveyor has no right to send your survey to anybody except to you. You
say "my broker". Is it your broker or is it the seller's broker? If the
latter, the broker is working for the seller, not for you. A broker is
simply a commissioned salesperson working for a commission on the sale of
the boat. He is paid by the seller. He gets paid more if he can sell the
boat to you for more. So now your surveyor has placed your document into
the hands of the seller's broker which conceivably forearms the seller's
broker to overcome any negative survey results.
At this point I would call the surveyor and tell him I would not be paying
for the survey. I would look for an independent surveyor, not the selling
broker's buddy.
If the "my broker" really is your broker, and is acting independently on
your behalf and is being paid by you (a highly unlikely situation) then
that's a different situation.
I would be very leery of this broker - surveyor relationship.
Remember.... The surveyor works for you. You pay him. His job is to report
to you, his professional evaluation of the vessel. What you do with that
information is completely up to you. Normally you would review it with the
surveyor, perhaps take it to a yard to get an estimate of the dollars
involved and then decide is you even want to proceed with the transaction.
Then you can approach the broker with an offer (not "my broker" but the
seller's broker") based upon your revised evaluation of the vessel.
Good luck

Subject: TWL: survey turn around times?
Im wondering if others consider their survey process
an aggrevation or not. The surveyor I am working with
has been promising me the copy of my survey report
since monday. It wouldnt be a large ordeal, though
other circumstances make it such. Its wednesday
evening and after finally calling and calling he told
me he sent it to my broker this morning. Whats a good
average turnaround time to get a copy of your survey
in your hands... not your brokers?
And does this usually happen, sending to the broker
and not to the one paying the tab??
