Were you using more than 30 amp?
We went through in front of you and found elec along most of the Rideau at
locks. We were charged 9.90 per night if we used a 30 amp plug. Only  a
couple locks on the Trent-Severn had elec. We spent 72 days cruising the
canals  and all but maybe 8 days on lock walls.. Total season lock and transit
pass  507.60. Comes out to about 9.00 dollars a night for our 27 ft boat.
Still a good  bargin at twice that if you take a season up there. Since the
Admiral needs  to be back by mid august this year we are considering having the
boat  trucked up from Fl for this season.

The real cost becomes more when you add in the $12.50+  per night for
electric. We didn’t and couldn’t use the lock wall electric  every night because
some lock walls did not have electric service.
We were  in the Canada locks and canals from Jun 15 - Jul 20 when we
entered the  Georgian Bay.
That’s 36 nights

The Parks Canada charge in 2012 for electric in the Canadian canals was $12.50 for two 30amp power connections. I fully expect it to be higher this year since they  need the tax money and they are stealthy about this fee. They were actively installing more power poles along our trip. In Fenelon Falls, for example, they had redone the whole mooring wall concrete and added some nice power poles with water hook ups also. In contrast, on the Rideau at Hogs Back, there is no power and if you need water for your tanks, the lock master will work with you to run all of his long hoses down to the dock. Then farther down at Upper Breweres Lock 43, you couldn’t get ANY water for your boat or electricity.

Our boat has the AC power split between the two 30 amp connections. One side has the air conditioner and heater while the other side runs the house circuits and battery charger. When it is hot and humid and air conditioning is preferred, we need both power lines connected. Otherwise, if the we weather is cool, we can easily get away with one side, especially if only for one night as the hot water will remain hot for a day after running the engine. If it cools down and we only have a single 30 amp power connections, I have to switch the connections to get power to the hot water heater.
