CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
2011 Junior Theorists Symposium
University of Nevada, Las Vegas
19 August 2011
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 31 JANUARY 2011
We invite submissions for abstracts the 5th Junior Theorists Symposium, to be held at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas on August 19, 2011. The JTS is a one-day conference for up-and-coming theorists organized by the Theory Section of the American Sociological Association. Since 2005, the conference has brought together early career-stage sociologists who engage in theoretical work as part of their research. To encourage a wide range of submissions, we have not pre-specified a theme for this conference. Instead, papers will be grouped into sessions based on emergent themes. (In the past, thematic groupings have included Knowledge; Selves and Social Situations; Politics; Institutions and Organizations; and What is Social Theory?)
We are pleased to announce that Andrew Abbott (University of Chicago), Loic Wacquant (Berkeley), and Viviana Zelizer (Princeton) will serve as commentators for this years symposium.
We invite all ABD graduate students, postdocs, and Assistant Professors who received their Ph.Ds from 2007 onwards to submit an abstract or one-page précis (500 word maximum). Be sure also to include (i) a paper title, (ii) name and contact information, and (iii) three or more descriptive keywords.
Please send submissions to the organizers: Tom Medvetz, University of California San Diego (tmedvetz@ucsd.edu) and Michal Pagis, Tel Aviv University (michalpagis@gmail.com). The deadline for submission is January 31. We will extend up to 10 invitations to present by March 15. Please plan to share a full paper by July 1, 2011.
