Why Stress Is the Silent Saboteur of Weight Loss, Sleep, and Health
Most people believe weight gain, poor sleep, and declining health are
problems of willpower … Eat better … Try harder … Push more. But decades of
research … and years of real-world experience tell a quite different story.
The real issue for most people isn’t lack of discipline. It’s stress … the
silent saboteur quietly undoing even your best intentions.
Stress and Weight: What No Diet Tells You
When you’re under chronic stress, your body releases cortisol. Cortisol’s
job is to keep you alive in emergencies … but it was never meant to stay
elevated day after day. High cortisol:
- Signals your body to store fat, especially around the abdomen
- Increases cravings for sugar and comfort foods
- Slows fat burning even when calorie intake hasn’t changed
