Your invitation to join the Christmas Bird Count (and some fun facts):

Tahoma Audubon's Christmas Bird Count (CBC)
When? Saturday, December 20, 2014
Where? Tacoma/Fife/Parkland/Gig Harbor/University Place areas (see link
below and map on website for details)
Who? Citizen Scientists - that's you or anyone! No experience necessary.
Cost? Free!

CBC Fun Facts:

  1. Citizen Science existed long before the term 'citizen science' was
    coined.
  2. You don't need to be a citizen to observe, learn or participate. (a
catchy but poor choice of words perhaps).
  3. You don't need to be a *scientist *to contribute to science.
  4. You don't need to celebrate Christmas to participate in the CBC (this is
    not
a religious event; it was started in 1900 as an alternative to the
'side hunt' tradition of a bird shooting contest on Christmas day, hence
    the name).
  5. Best of all: it's free!

Now that you know, join us!

Tahoma Audubon will host the Tacoma-area CBC on Saturday, December 20th.
The event runs all day during daylight hours. You must sign up with an area
leader prior to the event. The area leaders and their contact information
are shown on a map on our website at: www.tahomaaudubon.org/cbc

At the end of the day, an optional dinner is shared at the Tacoma Nature
Center, where you'll have a chance to report and hear about all of the
group sightings for the day. A small donation to cover food costs is
required for this portion of the event.

Binoculars are helpful. No experience is necessary. You will be part of a
team that includes experienced and expert birders - a great way to learn!

You will be outside all day. Dress appropriately.

We hope you will join us!
