Hi everyone –

Heads up that the latest cyber scam involves unexpected emails supposedly inviting you to a party or other event.  These are generated by hacked email accounts and are not intentionally sent.  Most of the time, the sender will not realize that they are generating the scam emails.

Some of these emails are being generated from members of our listserv and they are going to other members.  I immediately place such accounts on moderation so I can stop future scam messages, but by the time I do some of you will have already received the invite emails.

As always, treat any unexpected email with caution and never open the links contained in ANY email unless you are quite certain that it is legit.

To add to Chuck’s message, don’t label such a CTBirds email as spam, just delete it. Labeling it as spam will cause your email provider to recognize all CTBird emails as spam, even affecting people with the same provider as you.  Also, if such a message or any CTBird email end up in your spam folder, label it as “not spam” then delete from your in-box.
