Power cats - why?

I just bought an older design passagemaker and am thinking about adding a
long, skinny headsail (stowed below), a la "Passagemaker,"  just-in-case.

Power cats seem silly to me. Why not to simply buy a cat and have the sails
for security and reduce fuel consumption and noise when appropriate. Perhaps
it's simply "fear of sailing," but any fool can be taught to sail a boat.

John Camm (a sailboat owner, too)

Dear John, you made a point there, I`m under study in changing my 42 Foot
trawler for a 40 ft. Cat, with twin diesel, ample space, practically no
draught, and will keep the sails for when I want to go back to my sailing
days.
